Clara V.S.R.B. Franke, 72, of New Castle, formerly of Kittanning, died Saturday, August 3, 2019 in her residence.

Born May 14, 1947 in Leechburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Gertrude Myers Richard.  Clara enjoyed gardening, animals, the outdoors, sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, listening to music, especially Elvis, and playing Yahtzee with her daughter and granddaughter.  She was also a food connoisseur.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hans Franke; seven brothers, Ray, Roy, Bert, Wayne, Lon, Joe and Toby; and two sisters, Rose Richard and Rayola Gillespie.

Clara is survived by her children, Teresa Barkfelt of New Castle, Larry Barkfelt of Ford City, and Melzina (Miles Clark) Barkfelt of Kittanning; her six grandchildren, Shirley Watters of New Castle, Bernie Watters of New Castle, Brenna Cosme of Butler, Glenn Armstrong of Kittanning, Timothy Cravener of New Castle, and Samantha Fry of Ohioville; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jesse Richard of Enon Valley and Fred Richard of Westfield, NY; three sisters, Dimmie Davis of Erie, Janet Schall of Ford City and Jean (David) West of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Gabauer-Matter Funeral Home 3500 Third Avenue Koppel where a service will be on Saturday At 10am.  Rev. Bittner will officiate.

Private interment will take place in Kellersburg Methodist Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Shirley Watters in care of the funeral home.
