Elizabeth “Betty” I. Freed, 97, of East Palestine, formerly of Big Beaver, died Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Licking Memorial Hospital, Newark, Ohio.
Born May 8, 1920, in Greenville, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Pearl Francis (Thompson) Eakin. Betty loved to read and play cards. She volunteered at Heritage Valley Beaver on level one for ten years, as well as Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Cecil Freed, and grandson, Kenneth Burnette Jr.
Surviving are her four daughters, Jacqueline (Barry) VanKirk, East Palestine, Ohio; Pam Hostetter, Newark, Ohio; Debby (William) Shasteen, Darlington, and Sherry Mansell, Summerville, S.C.; her favorite companion, Come On; ten grandchildren, Jesse Burnette, Terri Stepek, Kelly Burnette, Todd Burnette, Grayson Hostetter, James Hostetter, Andrew Shasteen, Amy Ramano, Melissa Hammers and Korey Mansell; 26 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp., gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com. Rev. Lee Bittner will officiate.
Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery.
