Richard E. Nowotney, 84, of Patterson Twp., died Sunday, July 30, 2017, at his residence.


Born September 9, 1932, in Beaver Falls, the son of the late Albert Charles and Alfreda (Hilger) Nowotney Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S.  Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Richard never had any boys of his own, but he devoted over 40 years of his life coaching Beaver Falls Little League Baseball. He was an avid Beaver Falls and Pittsburgh Steelers Sports enthusiast.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bettie (Bednar) Nowotney; his in-laws, Bill and Helen Bednar; granddaughter, Erin Ashley Shingleton; nephew, Frankie Farkas; two uncles, Ben Hilger and Louis Bednar; and two beloved pets, Jesse and Mickie.


Surviving are his two daughters, Bobbi (Vince Mannerino) Shingleton, Beaver Falls, and Renee (Vince) Morocco, Chippewa Twp.; two brothers, Albert (Joy) Nowotney and Don ( Nancy) Nowotney, both of California; sister, Karen (Ken) Crawford, Okla.; four grandchildren, Jon (Ashley Rogan) Shingleton, Conway; Carli (Ed Payne) Shingleton, Patterson Twp.; Aaron Jon Shingleton, Chippewa Twp., and Nick (Tiffani Maloskey) Morocco, Ohioville; great-granddaughter, Alexa Shingleton-Payne; uncle, Steve Bednar; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Wilma Farkas; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved pet, Richie.


Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp.,, where prayers will be offered Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Monica’s, Chippewa site. Father Kim Schreck will officiate.


Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Dick was truly a great person. Was honored to coach with him. He served the league for many years. RIP my friend.
