Harry M. Canavesi Jr., age 67, of Aliquippa, PA passed away April 17, 2019 surrounded by his family. Harry was born on June 2, 1951 in New Galilee, PA and graduated from Northwestern High School (1969). He then earned his Bachelor of Business Management from Georgia Southern University (1974) where he was a member of the men’s baseball team. He and his family moved to Chippewa Township, PA and Harry began his 37 year career in financial planning on August 7, 1980 with Advest, Inc in Beaver, PA. Harry served on Advest’s board of directors for over a decade as well as numerous mutual fund councils. Known for his own stock reports on WMBA and WBVP for over 20 years, Harry also hosted a radio show called “Investing Profitably” 1987-1989. Notable guests included Sir John Templeton and Joseph Granville. Harry had a passion for helping countless clients throughout his career specializing in retirement planning and he always credited his parents for instilling a strong work ethic.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Harry gave back to his community by volunteering for Chippewa Little Indians, Blackhawk Little Cougars, running the Blackhawk Tip Off Club for over 5 years, serving as president of First Tee, as well as serving on the boards of Chippewa Sanitary Authority, Beaver Valley Country Club, and the YMCA of Beaver County. Harry has been a member of the LMBA Club since 1980 and enjoyed many rounds as a member of the Blackhawk Golf Course syndicate.
Harry is predeceased by his loving parents, Enrico Canavesi and Angelina Zaffaroni Canavesi. He is survived by his two children, Lacey Ann York (Brendan J. York) and Brooks Adam Canavesi (Jordan Canavesi), his five adoring grandchildren, Colin J. York, Elizabeth L. York, Caden C. Canavesi, Cruz A. Canavesi, and Lyla A. Canavesi, in addition to his three sisters, Evelyn Daub, Norma Boyle, and Josephine Agostine.
Family and friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home, 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp.www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com, where prayers will be held on Saturday at 9:20 a.m., followed by mass of Christian burial celebrated by Father Kim Schreck at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica Parish, 116 Thorndale Drive, Chippewa Twp., In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Monica where funds will support the youth of the parish to help them grow in Christ.
Interment will be private.
