John J. Tress, 93, of Beaver, died Friday, May 11, 2018, at Good Samaritan Hospice, Beaver.

Born May 9, 1925, in Beaver Falls, he was a son of the late Charles Anthony and Margaret (Cashbaugh) Tress. Following graduation from Beaver Falls High School in 1943, John served his country for three years in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After his military service, John attended Duquesne University and graduated with a degree in chemistry. Prior to starting his own business, Tress-pak Plastics, Inc., John worked for Dyfoam Corporation, Koppers, U.S. Steel, and Stylette Plastics. During his time at Koppers, John’s work along with other colleagues led to three patents involving polystyrene polymerization. John was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and current member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. As a parishioner at St. Mary’s, John served on church council, ushered, and was a contributing member of both the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Holy Name Society. He was also an active civic leader. John was a past Beaver Falls City councilman, a former Beaver Falls School Board President, and served numerous years on the Beaver Falls Water Authority.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Pat (Mulroy) Tress; 11 children, John J. (Marianne) Tress, Mary Rocco, Cheryl (Tom) Jenkins, Karen Tress, Paul (Martha) Tress, Kevin Tress, Brian (Mary) Tress, Sr., Dianne Tress, Michael (Joanie) Tress, Francis (Karla) Tress and Jacqueline (Bruce) Fronk; sister-in-law, Eleanor Tress; brothers-in-law, Joseph Mulroy and Edward Geraghty; 25 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Robert Tress and James F. Tress and sister-in-law, Corinne Geraghty.

Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp.,, where prayers will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Father Robert J. Miller will be officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery where the Beaver County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in John’s name, for mass intentions or for donations to the Saints Peter and Paul St. Vincent de Paul Society.
