Joseph N. Franchino, 91, of Chippewa Twp., died Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in his home.
Born November 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary Grace (Santillo) Franchino. Joe was a veteran of the US Army, where he served as a member of the Military Police during the Korean War. He was active in several clubs throughout his life, including the Italian Mutual Benefit Society, the Beaver Falls Elks Lodge 348, and the Beaver Falls Turners, and he also golfed in the Tuesday Night Blackhawk Golf League. He was the former owner of the Corner Tavern and the 19th Hole, and played an instrumental part in bringing liquor licenses to Chippewa Twp. A member of the Laborers Union Local 833, Joe worked as a laborer for CW Smith. He was an avid Notre Dame Fan and a passionate baker who was known by many as “Cookie Joe”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle M. Franchino; and two sisters, Florence Franchino and Jennie VanKirk.
He is survived by his children, Mark and Vickie Franchino of Chippewa Twp., Lynn and Doug Ogden of Moon Twp., Nick and Michele Franchino of Stamping Ground KY, Jodi and John Carrier of Ohioville, Toni and Jim Riggio of South Beaver Twp., and Joe Franchino of Scottsdale, AZ; 17 grandchildren, Julianna and Nathan Franchino, Megan and Kristin Ogden, Joseph (Brittney), Jordyn, Jarrod, and Jade Franchino, Andrew and LeeAnne Carrier, Frank and Abby Riggio, and Matthew, Michael, Maxwell, Morgan and Marisa Franchino; two sisters, Nilda Franchino and Rose Cagnetti; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a dear friend, Bruno Gratteri.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 6-8pm and Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home 117 Blackhawk Rd. Chippewa www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com where prayers will be held on Saturday at 9:20am followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10am at St. Monica’s-Chippewa. Father Kim Schreck will officiate.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Members of the BC Honor Guard will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 to perform full military honors.
