Robert E. Steel, 86, formerly of Rochester and New Brighton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 8, 1933, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Martha E. (Patterson) Steel.
After graduating from New Brighton High School, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, formerly employed at the New Brighton Post Office and the Bulk Mail Center in Warrendale. After retiring from the Post Office, he worked as a mechanic and truck driver for Bachman’s Garage and McCarl’s, retiring a second time at the age of 76. He was a self-taught handyman, who could fix almost anything. He completed one of his dreams by building his own home in 1979. His hobbies were restoring vehicles and puttering in his workshop. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion Adkins Anderson Post 19 and was a former member of the Marion Hill Sportsman’s Club.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Emma J. (Davidson) Steel; a daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Joseph Pfeifer of New Brighton; two beloved grandchildren, Melissa Pfeifer and her fiancé Josh Beightley and his two sons, Rhett and Rocco and Michael Pfeifer and his wife Holly, and their daughter, Corinne Keeling; a sister, Martha (Jay) McCowin; a brother, Raymond (Jane) Steel; sister-in-law, Linda (Jack) Moneta and several nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Russel Steel; an infant daughter, Donna Steel; in-laws, Fred and Mabel Davidson; two sisters, Margaret Steel and Barbara (Jim) Lowry; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law Genevieve and John Sheldrake; two  brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, George Davidson and Mervin and Judy Davidson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m. in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp., gabauerfamily Pastor Angela Smith will be officiating.
Interment will in Clinton Cemetery, Wampum.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lakeview Personal Care Home and Gateway Hospice for their compassionate care.

Uncle Bob always there in my childhood. Was like as second father. His daughter Diane was ike a sister to me growing up. He was right there for mt move from South Carolina following my divorce to helpool me to start a new life. . Now in heaven
