Eugene (Gino) Francesco(Frank) Filippelli, 84, of Daugherty Township, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019 in Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born February 22, 1935 in Cerisano, Calabria, Italy, son of the late Francesco and Maria Filippelli, he had been a resident of New Brighton for 66 years.
Eugene was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam war where he served and retired as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, 57 Tactical Hospital Squadron (TAC) for 21 years. Eugene enjoyed 24 years of services as member of the Order of Owls 1822, Rochester. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church.
Eugene was preceded in death by his brother, Antonio (Tony) Filippelli; sister-in-law, Geraldine Filippelli, Monaca; sister, Elena (Filippelli) Mandarino; brother-in-law, Joseph Mandarino Cerisano, Italy; brother-in-law, Frank Louis Greco, New Brighton; and niece, Fran Filippelli, Monaca.
He is survived by his sister, Luigina (Louise) (Filippelli) Greco, New Brighton; nephew, Joseph L. Greco, New Brighton; two nieces, Mary (Greco) Marano, Cape Coral, FL., and Elena Greco, Fredericksburg, VA.; nephews, Frank (Sherry) Filippelli, Monaca, Pasquale (Donna) Filippelli, Monaca, Gerard (Charlotte) Filippelli, Rochester; nephews, Salvatore Mandarino and family, Frank Mandarino; nieces, Maria Mandarino, Eda Mandarino all from Cerisano, Italy and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 4pm-8pm in the Gabauer Funeral Home 1133 Penn Avenue, New Brighton www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com. At the funeral home on Thursday the B.C. Special Unit will provide full military honors at 9:15am which will be followed by prayers at 9:30am. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 10am St. John the Baptist Church, 1409 Pennsylvania Ave. Monaca. Fr. Martin R. Bartel will officiate.
Private interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
