Jim Smith, 89, of Chippewa Twp. passed away on Saturday October 15, 2016 at the Heritage Valley Medical Center while surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on June 15, 1927 and grew up on the Lone Pine Farm in Murrysville, PA. He was the son of the late James T. Smith, Sr. and Ruth Goss Smith. He attended Murrysville Grade School and Franklin Twp. High School. Jim left high school at the age of 16 to join the Navy and served proudly in the Pacific during WWII. Upon his discharge from the Navy he worked various jobs then became the Manager of ABC Credit, Inc. in Beaver Falls, PA. In 1960 his entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and he started his first of many businesses, Mancing & Associates Collection Agency, which he owned and operated for nearly forty years. In 1979 he formed a side business, Jim Smith Landscaping & Snow Removal. In 1999, after selling Mancing & Associates, he was not ready to retire so he started his next company SRSA, Inc. (Snow Response Specialists & Associates). His snow removal company expanded over the years becoming the premier commercial snow removal company in the Pittsburgh area and is now listed as one of the top 100 snow removal companies in the United States. Jim retired from SRSA, Inc. in 2010 at the age of 83. One cannot take the farm out of the boy. Jim was also an avid gardener during his life, growing his own sweet corn and vegetables. For years he sold his prized vegetables and pumpkins from a roadside stand at his home. He was a Steelers fan, loved wood working and enjoyed discussing politics. At the age of 85, he had one last mission and formed the Beaver County Dialysis Support Group. The Smith family would like to thank the staff at Liberty Dialysis in Chippewa Twp. for their kindness, compassion and wonderful care. His legacy will carry on. He led by example with his positive outlook on life, his will to live, and his drive for new business ventures.
