Obituary

Rev. Dr. A. Gary Angleberger died peacefully at home on Friday, November 8, 2024.  Gary was the only child of the late Austin F. and Idalene K. Angleberger. He was born June 30, 1935 in Frederick, MD.  Gary was a graduate of Frederick High School and a graduate of Columbia College, New York City where he majored in philosophy and played Columbia baseball as their shortstop.

Gary then went to Union Theological Seminary in New York where he graduated and was ordained in 1960 in the Presbyterian Church (USA) as Minister of Word and Sacrament. He served congregations in Atlanta and Cohocton, New York; and the First Presbyterian Church of Granville, Ohio.

Following his call to the pastorate, Gary served the denomination as a fund raiser for the Major Mission Fund and then as a Mission Support Counselor for eight Presbyteries in western PA, focusing on Interpretation of Mission and Stewardship. Gary then became a Synod Associate Executive for Communication and Stewardship in the Synod of the Trinity. After his retirement in 2000, he returned to the pastorate serving as a Transitional Pastor for ten years to five congregations.

Gary is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rev. Dr. Judy A. Angleberger and their four children, Margaret (Neil) Brisson of Manhattan, NY; Stacey (Art) Cox of Downers Grove, IL; Captain (ret.) Andrew Charles (Theresa) of Fairfax Station, VA and Rev. Kelley (Rev. Dr. Tom Harmon) Angleberger of Cranberry Township, PA.

Gary says good-bye to 13 grandchildren- Tad, Sam, Nate, Kit, Makayla, Brayden, Joseph, Madison, Austin, Clare, Abigail, Shepherd and William; and one great-granddaughter, Elisabeth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Peter Austin Angleberger.

Gary's life was enriched with family, the church, colleagues, travel, the Pittsburgh Symphony, Pittsburgh Pirates, antiques, and his 1841 home "Pleasant View".

Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 12 th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC- 117 Blackhawk Rd., Chippewa Twp. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 13 th at 11am at Park Presbyterian Church- 275 Commerce St., Beaver PA 15009.  The Rev. Dr. David Oyler will officiate. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Harmon, Executive Presbyter of Beaver Butler Presbytery, will preach.

Interment will follow in Beaver Cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made in Gary's name to the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and specify that it is to be used towards the Revs. Drs. A. Gary and Judy A. Angleberger Scholarship Fund.
