Obituary
- Leonard “Lenny” Kayafas, 85, of Chippewa Twp., passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 in his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 3, 1938 in Steubenville, OH, he was the son of the late Gust and Sophia (Kirlangitis) Kayafas. Lenny started off with humble beginnings as a gas station attendant in his hometown of Steubenville. His next career move was with Western & Southern Life Insurance where he achieved many awards. His final career move was to start his own insurance agency, A.L. Kayafas Insurance in Wampum, PA. Yet, his wife, 3 children, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren were always first in his heart. Upon retirement, his favorite past times included family dinners on Sundays after church, golfing with his buddies, and taking care of the beautiful grounds at his home. He was a beloved family man who always put family first, teaching so many lessons to his children and grandchildren. His kindness, generosity, honesty and integrity were unsurpassed. He was a member of A.H.E.P.A (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association), and was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Ambridge.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, love of his life, and wife of 65 years, Lois (Forester) Kayafas; two daughters, Sophia (Dr. John) Contes and Connie Kaiser; a son, Dr. Christopher (Lisa) Kayafas; 10 grandchildren, Alexa (Dr. Jared) Bovalino, Zachary (Lenia) Contes, Vassie (Jake) Delmonico, Aristotle (Carissa) Contes, Mia (Clayton) McGeary, Nicholas Kaiser, Demi Kaiser, Lucas Kayafas, Noah Kayafas and Zoe Kayafas; 14 great-grandchildren, Arietta, Constantine, Elenna, Vassiana, Sophia, Zoe, Yianni, Anthony, Nico, Carmella, Panagiota, Leonidia, Everett, and Abel; a brother, Pete Kayafas; nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Milton Kayafas; and a sister, Mary Lakios.
Friends will be received on Thursday, July 27th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm in the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC.- 117 Blackhawk Rd. Chippewa Twp., www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com. Additional visitation will take place on Friday, July 28th from 10am until the time of services at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church- 2930 Beaver Rd., Ambridge PA 15003. Fr. George Athanasiou will officiate.
A Trisagion service will be held Thursday at 7pm at the funeral home.
Entombment will take place in the Kayafas private mausoleum in Beaver Cemetery.
Contributions may be made in Lenny’s name to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
The family would like to give special thanks to Lenny’s nurses Katrina & Judy from Gateway Hospice, private nurse JoEllen & personal caregiver Yianni for all of the love and care they provided to him during his illness.
