Amelia C. Shutey, 100, of West Bridgewater, passed away Thursday, August 17, at her home following a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and friends. She was a daughter of the late John and Amelia Pavlinich Shutey.
Miss Shutey was a resident of West Bridgewater all her life. She was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church (Our Lady of the Valley) in Beaver, PA.
Following graduation with honors from Beaver High School, Miss Shutey was employed by the Heppenstall Company in New Brighton, PA. From there, she was transferred to the firm's headquarters office in Pittsburgh, where she served as executive assistant to the firm's Chairman and CEO. She served members of the founding Heppenstall family and their successors in a distinguished career until her retirement.
Miss Shutey was also a founding shareholder and board member of Shasta Holdings Company, a family- controlled business serving the steel and specialty metals industry. During that time, her career experience helped guide the firm's growth and operations in three states serving a diverse group of leading metals producers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Katherine (Lawrence) Koss, Mary (Matthew) Catanese, Patricia Shutey, Josephine (Charles) Sylak, and Dorothy (Leroy) Waddell; and two brothers, John (Shirley) Shutey and Paul Shutey.
Throughout her lifetime, she was dedicated to her family. She resided in the family's original homestead, which served as the gathering place for many holidays and special occasions. This past October, in honor of her 100th birthday, more than 84 of her nieces, nephews, friends and relatives traveled to Beaver to attend a surprise dinner party in her honor at Seven Oaks Country Club.
Surviving are numerous loving nieces, nephews and their families who remember Amelia as an aunt who made a profound difference in their lives through her loving and caring ways.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, August 22nd from 3pm to 7pm at the GABAUER-TODD FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES (Branch)- 304 Third Street, Beaver, PA 15009-www.gabauerfamily funeralhomes.com, where prayers will be held on Wednesday at 9:20 am followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 am at SS Peter & Paul (Our Lady of the Valley) Roman Catholic Church-200 3rd St, Beaver, PA 15009. Father Howard Campbell will officiate.
Burial will follow at Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Darlington Road, Beaver Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Heritage Valley Health System Foundation, 420 Rouser Road, Suite 102, Moon Township, PA 15108, or to SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church (Our Lady of the Valley Parish).
