Obituary

Barbara E.L. McDowell Hood Morris, 73, of Portersville, formerly of Brighton Twp., passed away Friday morning, July 9,2021 at home with her husband Hubert by her side.

Born July 10, 1947 at Kane Hospital, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Marian (Carlson) McDowell.  Barbara worked for Hasting Nursing Home in New Brighton in the late 1970’s.  She worked for Abby Cleaning, cleaning banks in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, then worked for the gameroom at the Beaver Valley Mall in the 1980’s and 1990’s.  She also worked for Burger Chef in the 1980’s.  Barb loved to travel, ride with Hubert in the big rig (18 wheeler) when he was going out of town, and loved riding motorcycles with Hubert.

Barbara leaves behind three daughters who will miss her very much, Cheryl (Mickey) Lako of Chippewa, Tracy (Jeff) Harris of Monaca and Marian Hood of Brighton Twp. and her fiancé Chris McHerny; two granddaughters that she loved very much, Violet (Trevor) Barker and Shelby Easterday and her boyfriend Jessey Horton; two sisters-in-law, Annie and Mary Lou McDowell, both from James City, PA; and her husband, Hubert Morris, who she loved very much; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Arthur E. “Artie” McDowell in 2006 and Edward O “Hooner” McDowell, Jr. in 2019; and a former husband, Fredrick J. “Fred” Hood in 2020.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the GABAUER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC-1133 Penn Ave. New Brighton- www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com.

A private family service will be held.
