Obituary

Bonalyn G. Schmidt, 99, known to her family and friends as Bonnie, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Heritage Valley, Beaver.

Born on August 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Lavina (Lines) Gray.

She was a graduate of Beaver high School, Class of 1942, and furthered her education at St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1947.  Bonnie had been a registered nurse for the former Rochester General Hospital and the Beaver Medical Center, retiring in 1986.  In 1948, she married the late Fred Thomas Schmidt and resided in Industry until 2009.  Bonnie was a cherished member of the Park Presbyterian Church and was a volunteer for the Medical Center for many years.  She was also a member of the St. Francis Alumni Association and the Industry Women’s Club.

In addition to her parents and husband, Bonnie was preceded in death by her sisters, Jean Gray Portman and Dawn Gray Inabnet.

Left to cherish Bonnie’s memory are her three sons; Thomas Schmidt, David (Carol) Schmidt, and Mark (Janet) Schmidt; grandchildren, Bonnie (Owen) Rice, Emily (Derek) Neimann, and Michael Schmidt; two great-grandchildren; and four nieces.

Bonnie will be privately laid to rest beside her husband at Beaver Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held on October 14^th at 10AM at Park United Presbyterian Church, 275 Commerce Street, Beaver, PA 15009.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
