Obituary

Bonnie Lee (Ross) Gorrell, 86, formerly of Beaver Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House, Youngstown.

Born on October 11, 1935, in Brookfield, OH, she was the daughter of the late Kathryn (Libeg) Ross and Raymond Ross, Sr.

Bonnie was called Mom, Grandma, Sister, Dear Friend, as well as Boss, Feisty, Spunky, Fun, a hard-worker, and Fiercely Independent.  She never met a stranger and never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

She lived her entire adult life in the Beaver Falls, PA area and married her late husband on May 23, 1953.  She was involved in her community for more than 60 years.  A few highlights would be that Bonnie was a Den Mother, promoted to Den Coach from 1968-1974 where she served alongside Jack in the Boy Scouts of America while their sons were growing up.  She was active in her North Sewickley Presbyterian Church Family for many years and served in many capacities; including just being a light that would shine upon everyone she met.  For several years, until just recently, she would coordinate the serving team for the Christmas Day meal at the Beaver Falls High School.

Bonnie had a passion for helping others.  This was evident in the jobs that she had when she worked for Dr. Sutton in Beaver Falls from 1970-1988.  She then went to work at the Beaver Valley Medical Center, where she served as a Clinical Technician until her retirement in 2008.  If you knew Bonnie, you know that she couldn’t sit still, so after retirement she found a part-time job at This & That in downtown Beaver Falls until 2020.

All of this and she had time to be a loving and supportive mother, grandmother, and sister.  Bonnie was very loyal to her dearest, lifetime friends, Mrs. Lois Hemphill, Mrs. Pat Wolfe, and Mrs. Margie Lathom.

In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death be her loving husband, Jack, in 2001; and a sister, Ramona Ross.

Bonnie is survived by her sons; John (Lori) Gorrell of Canfield, OH, and David (Lisa) Gorrell of Lebanon, PA; her grandchildren, Zachary Gorrell, Brittany (Austin) Elwonger, Michael Gorrell, Katie Gorrell, Erin (Bryce) Troxell, and Hannah Gorrell; her sisters, Patricia (Raymond) Haun and Lucretia (Richard Newlin) Varga; and a brother, Raymond Ross; brother-in-law, Jerry (Dee) Gorrell, and sister-in-law, Belva Gorrell.

The family would like to thank St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown and Hospice of the Valley Hospice House for their thorough and very kind care to Bonnie in her last days.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Wednesday, October 5th at 11AM at the North Sewickley Presbyterian Church, 106 Chapel Dr., Ellwood City, PA 16117.  A luncheon will be served immediately following the services in the church social hall.

Private entombment will be in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, Bonnie kindly suggested memorial contributions be made to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, PA 15001.
