Obituary

Carole J. McBride, 83, of South Beaver Township, passed away on July 6, 2021, from complications of COVID-19 and joined God in heaven, where she is eternally reunited with her beloved husband, Donald B. McBride, Jr, who passed in 1983.  She is the daughter of the late Harold L. Damaska and Velma Faye Dean Damaska of New Brighton, PA.

Mrs. McBride is survived by her brother, Harold Damaska of Seaford, DE, and her four children, Kelly Maloney (Matthew) of Beaver, PA, Sean McBride (Sharon) of Fairfax, VA, Erin McBride Schlerf (Jeffrey) of Wilmington, DE, and Colleen Kenny (Andrew) of Chippewa Township.

In addition, she was a loving grandmother to Devon and Ryan Maloney of Boston, MA, Conner and Maggie McBride of Fairfax, VA, William and Alexander Schlerf of Wilmington, DE, and Meghan and Colin Kenny of Chippewa Township.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey J. Damaska, and her brother, Ronald D. Damaska.

She started her professional career as Secretary to the Manager of Personnel at Babcock & Wilcox Steel Company in Beaver Falls, PA.  After raising her children, she rejoined the workforce, and after holding secretarial positions in the healthcare and insurance fields, was appointed Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent of the Blackhawk School District in 1985.  She served in that position for 23 years until her retirement in 2008.

Carole graduated from New Brighton High School and for many years was a member of New Brighton’s Trinity Lutheran Church. She was also Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls’ New Brighton Chapter.  She was a South Beaver Township Little League and Beaver County Adult Literacy volunteer, and cherished family vacations at Linwood Park in Vermillion, OH, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Hilton Head, SC.  The poems “Little Things” and “Irish Blessing” were two of her favorites.

In her final years, she was a resident at Franciscan Manor Assisted Living in Patterson Township, where she was loved and well-cared-for by the facility’s dedicated staff, nurses and aides.  She was also loved and well-cared-for by the dedicated staff of Kindred Hospice in her final months.

She will be interred at Sylvania Hills Cemetery in Rochester, Pennsylvania, next to her husband and near her parents and beloved in-laws, Donald B. McBride, Sr., and his wife Ruth. 

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 10:30 am, at the Chippewa Presbyterian Church, 530 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Blackhawk School District College Scholarship Fund in her honor are appreciated. Checks made payable to “Blackhawk School District” can be sent to Blackhawk School District, Attention: Business Office, 500 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, PA, 15010.
