Obituary

D. Dal Watterson, 61, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in his home in Bridgeport, WV on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.

Born on November 10, 1959 in New Brighton, he was the son of the late Wayne and Frances (Jameson) Watterson.

Dal was a resident of Darlington for most of his life.  He was a graduate of Blackhawk High School Class of 1977.  Dal was a dedicated oil and natural gas professional with NOV Tuboscope, first working in Darlington and later in Bridgeport, WV.  With a long history of serving his community, Dal was a proud member of the Darlington Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as chief.  Dal also served as the State Fire Instructor, teaching numerous firefighters locally and throughout the state and had also worked as an EMT and 911 Operator.  He also served as the Borough Council President in Darlington for many years.  He had a lifelong passion for antique earth moving equipment, which he maintained and operated with his brothers each spring and fall at the National Pike Steam Gas Horse Association show.  As an avid Steelers fan, Dal enjoyed Sunday games with his family.

He will be remembered for his incredible hard work and kindness.  Dal had a tendency to make friends everywhere, some of which remained more like family.  He loved to tell stories, give directions, and teach everyone around him what he knew.  He was a father and mentor to many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jayne (Haney) Watterson; daughters, Julia (Kameron Lyew) Watterson of Houston, TX, Emily (Adam Wolf) Watterson of Beaver Falls, Molly (Josh Wombacker) Watterson of Pittsburgh, Gennifer Dusold of New Brighton, Maura Watterson of Bridgeport, WV; son, David Dal Watterson II of McGuire Memorial – New Brighton; his brothers, William (Marcy) Watterson of Delaware, OH, Edward (Linda) Watterson of Darlington, PA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Joyce Haney.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-8PM at the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Chippewa Twp., www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com.  A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11AM.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A committal service will follow at the Darlington Township Volunteer Fire Department.

If so desired, memorial donations in Dal’s name may be made to the Darlington Township Volunteer Fire Department, 3590 Darlington Road, Darlington, PA 16115.
