Obituary

David Dennis “Denny” Cahill, Sr., 92, of Hopewell Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph, Baden.

Born on May 7, 1933, in Ellwood City, PA, he was the son of the late Martin Edward and Mabel Margaret (Garwig) Cahill.

Denny was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict.  Following his military service, he obtained an associates degree from Penn State Beaver and went on to work as a salesman for Cutler Hammer, later retiring as a manager of the customer service center for Eaton Corporation in Moon Township.  In retirement, he found great joy in volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Beaver County, delivering many meals to those who were in need.  He was a past member and deacon of Mt. Carmel United Presbyterian Church in Hopewell as well as a founding member of the KRACSAM Card Club.  He, along with his late wife, Shirley, were largely involved in family genealogy, making many trips to local courthouses, libraries, and other institutions to obtain their knowledge of the past.  Denny doted on his grandchildren and enjoyed precious moments he spent with them, had a particular fondness for a good meal, and a good clean car.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley (Rader) Cahill; his siblings, Patrick Cahill, JoAnn (Patsy) DiCarlo, and Jane Cahill; a granddaughter, Meghan Alyssa Mercadante; and a great-granddaughter, Aria Rodriguez.

He is survived by his children, Sharlene (Gary) Mercadante and David (Sandy) Cahill, Jr.; grandchildren, Colleen (Blake) McElhaney, Michael (Lisa) Cahill, and Kristi (Cody) Rodriguez; great-grandchildren, Fia Meghan McElhaney, Betty Cahill, and AJ Rodriguez; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In accordance with his wishes, Denny will be cremated.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday, March 9, 2026 from 9:30AM until the time of services at 11AM at Chippewa United Methodist Church, 2545 Darlington Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010. Pastor Allan Brooks will officiate. A luncheon will follow in the church.

Denny’s family respectfully asks that memorial contributions be made to a local Beaver County Meals on Wheels.
