Dominic ‘Nick’ Charles Cascio
Beaver

Dominic “Nick” Charles Cascio, of Beaver, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in Providence Health Care in Beaver Falls. Nick was born in Brighton Township and was the son of the late Anthony and Mary Theresa Fazio Cascio. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Charles and Frank, and three sisters, Ann, Jane and Mary,  a great-nephew, Michael Cascio, and a great-niece, Esther Jo Cascio. Surviving him are two nephews, Anthony (Nancy) Cascio and Frank Cascio. Nick was a graduate of Beaver High School and served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 where he served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Following his time in the service, he attended and graduated from Shepherd College, Shepherdstown, W.Va., with an AB and BS degree. While attending Shepherd, Nick was the co-captain of the football team, won the Best Citizen Award and was on the Honor Roll. After college, Nick taught high school and coached in Rappahanock County, Va. He was a founding member of the rescue squad in Washington, Va. In 1956 Nick returned to the Beaver Valley where he taught at East Liverpool High School for nine years and later Rochester High School. Throughout his teaching career, Nick coached baseball, basketball and football. He was a member of the American Legion, where he had served as past commander and chaplain. Nick became a volunteer at The Medical Center, Beaver, where he accumulated greater than 1,000 hours of service each year and was a beloved and familiar face at The Medical Center. In 2004 he was inducted into the East Liverpool High School Athletic Hall of Fame which he considered a tremendous recognition of his passion and dedication for teaching and coaching.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the TODD FUNERAL HOME, 340 Third St., Beaver. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Beaver, with Father Robert Miller officiating. Burial will be in Beaver Cemetery. The Beaver County Special Unit will meet at Beaver Cemetery at 11 AM to provide full military honors for Mr. Cascio.

    Coach, as I was making my many phone calls to let people know of your passing, the same reply was being related….I’m going to miss his phone calls. You taught at East Junior High in the East End of East LIverpool. There, you helped rough young boys, become young men! Thanks, Coach and God Bless.

    NICK WAS THE BEST NEIGHBOR AND FRIEND ANYONE COULD ASK FOR,HE WAS LIKE A GRANDFATHER TO MY 2 CHILDREN MARIE AND MICHAEL,HE AND HIS SISTERS WERE ALWAYS HAVING US IN STICHES,NICK SPENT MANY NIGHTS SITTING ON HIS PORCH WITH MY KIDS TEACHING THEM SCIENCE AND JUST LIFE IN GENERAL HE SPENT MANY HOLIDAYS AT OUR HOME.HE STILL HAS PHOTOS OF MY KIDS IN HIS KITCHEN,MY KIDS ARE 39 AND 37 AND HE STILL KEPT THEM THERE.I TALKED TO HIM AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH,HE IS GOING TO BE MISSED SO MUCH,MY DAUGHTER AND SON HELPED NICK WITH HIS CALIFORNIA RAISIN COLLECTION,WE TALKED ABOUT THEM ALL THE TIME..WE LOVED AND ARE GOING TO MISS HIM SO VERY MUCH,REST IN PEACE DEAR SWEET NICK.
