Obituary

Duane Dale “Ike” McGaffic

Center Twp, formerly of Hookstown

Duane Dale “Ike” McGaffic, of Center Twp, formerly of Hookstown, passed away in the comfort of his family on the night of Tuesday, August 28 at Heritage Valley Beaver. Despite his many battles with health, Ike, 76, lived a life full of laughter and curiosity. It would be easy to think his most defining trait was his will (or as some in his family call stubbornness) against adversity, but it’s loyalty that he practiced daily. He was always the first to assist in any family crisis.

He and his wife, Dolores Jean, married in their late-teens in 1961. Best friends they always have been, his wife has been by his side every step of the way. Even through his years at St. Joe Minerals and Mellon Bank, they were partners in their own private businesses.

He was loved by the family he left on Tuesday: two daughters Sandy McGaffic Pupi and Gloria McGaffic Campese, his grandchildren Shawna Wilson (Dustin Brodmerkel), Lucas Wilson, Brian Carcaise, Tara Campese (Moses Aguilar), and Jude Aguilar, his sister Judy (Gary) Jarrard and his brother Robert (Linda) McGaffic along with a slew of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Frank and Josephine Koerber McGaffic, he was preceded in death by siblings, Leonard McGaffic, Dorothy Coward, Georganne Minton, Patricia Barnett, Velma Speer, and James McGaffic.

The legacy Ike leaves behind is that of courage, wisdom, and a lifetime of stories. His courage and strength would have made Superman envious. His wisdom will never be replaced but always remembered. And he never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Ike, still concerned with his family’s well-being even in death, has requested no public services to be provided. The Todd Funeral Home, 340 Third Street, Beaver, has been gracious in their services and has been entrusted with arrangements.

He conquered Hodgkin’s disease in his late 30’s, and thus, his family suggests friends may contribute, in his memory and honor, to the Mario Lemieux foundation, 2 Chatham Center, Suite 1661, 112 Washington Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

Mrs. McGaffic, Sandy and Gloria,You have all been in my thoughts and prayers since I learned of Mr. McGaffic passing. I have such great memories of hanging out in your house in Chapel Valley, and I remember Mr. NcGaffic as always being so kind, and so funny. :)He seemed to put up with the antics of teenage girls very well, and with a great sense of humor. And I know he was a great Dad. I hope that you will find peace in your treasured memories. Love, Kim Springfield
