Obituary

Emma Mary Miller joined her loving husband Ken on April 11. She fought a tough fight with Alzheimer's disease that robbed her of her freedom and doing the things she enjoyed. Luckily most of her ninety years were spent living life on her own terms. She lived a full life when she was well. At 20 years old she moved to New York City to pursue a modeling career. As with a lot of aspiring beauties, she worked as a waitress at the Brass Rail where she met our father, a native New Yorker and budding writer who had just come back from fighting in World War II and writing for Stars and Stripes. They were a handsome couple and enjoyed living in NYC but mom longed for the simplicity of her hometown of Koppel PA. Even with dad's promising career in public relations for the New York Horseracing Association, she convinced him to move back to PA. Once here, he said he could never imagine living anywhere else. He had a long career as an editor for the Beaver County Times. They raise four great children: Brian (Linda Lukitsch) (Wexford), Mark (wife Olivia) , (Tucson, AZ), Robin (Pittsburgh) and Terry (Atlanta, GA). Son Terry and his wife Denise, gave Emma two amazing grandchildren, Jenna and Isaac. She was a lifelong member of the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. And in her younger days could pinch a mean pierogi for the Lady's Alter Society. Emma's other great joy was polka dancing at the SNPJ in Enon Valley. She will be missed by her family and friends. We hope that when she reunites with our dad in the ever after, Red Roses for a Blue Lady will be playing and she will be at peace.men did to get the job. It was there however, that she met our father. She was a struggling waitress, he was a cashier – at the Brass Rail Restaurant in Manhattan. (Coincidentally, it was also there where she befriended Harvey Corman, before he was big.) Somehow, she manged to convince the big city boy to move out to the country, a kind of Green Acres in reverse, I guess. And the rest, history, I suppose. Somewhere in the universe, there’s a really big polka dance going on now, and I’m sure she’s in the middle of it, hoofing it up like crazy. Brian, Mark, Robbie and I will miss her dearly.Family and friends will be received at Gabauer-Matter Funeral Home 3500 Third Ave. Koppel PA on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:30, followed by interment at Locust Grove Cemetery. If desired you can make contributions to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh in name of her beloved parrot Nico.
