Obituary
Ernest G. “Ernie” Heymann, 92, of Cranberry Township, PA passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on December 31, 1933, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John J. and Bessie M. (Headland) Heymann.
Ernie was a man of unwavering faith, deep devotion to his family, and a lifelong commitment to serving others. For many years, he was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Brighton before becoming a longtime member of St. Philomena Catholic Church in Beaver Falls. Following the parish merger, he worshipped at St. Ferdinand Church of Divine Grace Parish in Cranberry Township.
Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard as a Seaman, protecting America’s shores and helping ensure the safety of those at sea. He carried that same sense of duty and dedication throughout his life.
He enjoyed a distinguished career with Babcock & Wilcox, where he worked for 37 years before continuing his career with the United States Postal Service as a bulk mail handler in Cranberry Township for an additional eight years.
A devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, Ernie passionately supported his hometown teams, especially the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins throughout his life. He found even greater joy in giving back to the community by coaching and mentoring countless young athletes, helping shape not only better players but better people. His commitment to the North Sewickley community, where he lived for over 55 years, was further demonstrated through his involvement in the early development of Bradshaw Park, a youth baseball park that continues to benefit generations of local families.
Above all, Ernie treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marie (Palmieri) Heymann; his three children, Ernest L. (Laura) Heymann, Michael J. (Kerri) Heymann, and Susan M. Heymann; his five grandchildren, Kevin (Alysha) Heymann, Anthony Heymann, Matthew Heymann, Meghan Heymann, and Jessica Heymann; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him greatly. Susan lived with and provided loving support and care for Ernie during the later years of his life.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Patricia Murphy, Ernie’s devoted caregiver, whose compassionate medical care, kindness, patience, and unwavering support brought comfort, dignity, and companionship throughout the later years of his life. Her proactive care helped extend Ernie’s life and it became a true blessing to Ernie and to our entire family.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, John and Harry; his sisters, Isabell, Helen, Elsie, Eva, Mary Francis, and an infant sister.
Ernie will be remembered for his quiet strength, steadfast faith, generous heart, love of family, dedication to his community, and the example he set through a life well lived. His legacy will continue through the many lives he touched and the family who loved him dearly.
Family and Friends will be received on Sunday, July 12, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
