Obituary

Fredie E. Ackley was born in Richhill Township, Greene County, PA to Etta Alberta (Scott) Ackley and Raymond Elmer Ackley. He graduated from Commadore Perry in its first graduating class of 1956 where he lettered in Basketball. In 1960, he married Nancy Ellen (Carey) Ackley, enjoying sixty-three years of marriage.

Fredie retired from Penn Power in 1993 after 34 years of service starting in the Mercer County line company and retired as shift supervisor at Bruce Mansfield Plant in Shippingport, PA. For the next thirty years, he and Nancy decorated Tara – A Country Inn and Buhl Mansion Guesthouse & Spa for the seasons.

Fredie loved music, often singing his high tenor harmony, and fostering a lasting love of music in his children. He was a gifted handyman and tinkerer, leaving everything he touched a little better than when he found it. Fredie had a passion for nice cars, starting with his cherished ‘55 Fairlane and his GTOs, always looking sharp with lots of horses under the hood.

Fredie was a member of CUP Evangelical Presbyterian Church, where he previously served terms as deacon and elder. He adopted, as extended family, the many friends made at Camp Lambec. He enjoyed playing softball and volleyball in church leagues and at Lambec.

He was preceded in death by parents Raymond and Alberta Ackley, brother James Ackley, sister Cleo (Ackley) Free, brothers-in-law James E. Winner, Jr., Charles Free and Earlen Free, and several nieces and nephews.

He will be fondly remembered by his wife Nancy, son John James Ackley and his wife Maria (Petrella) Ackley, daughter Laura Lou Ackley, grandchildren Zane Ackley, Zachary Sartori, Carey Shaffer, Stephen Shaffer and his wife Olga (Noordam) Shaffer and their children, sister Carol (Ackley) Free, sisters-in-law Margaret (Carey) Hoye and her husband Clarence, Donna (Carey) Winner, brother-in-law George Carey and his wife Helen, multiple nieces and nephews, and God-sons Matthew and Nathan Laney.
