Obituary

Gerard C. “Jerry” Sommer, Jr., 82, of South Beaver Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls.

Born on February 7, 1941, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Gerard C., Sr. and Mary (Convery) Sommer.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Jerry had retired from Heritage Valley, Beaver, where he had spent over 25 years as a maintenance technician.  He was a member of St. Monica Roman Catholic Church.  Jerry enjoyed bowling, watching the Pirates, and had a love for all animals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Sommer.

Jerry is survived by his children, Sandra (Kevin) White, Jeffrey Sommer, Daniel (Samantha) Sommer, Mark (Georgia) Sommer, and Brian (Donna) Sommer; his grandchildren, Kylie (Drew) Null, Meaghan (Mitchol) Pappan, and Jessica White; step-grandchildren, Tawny Bettoni and Josh Bettoni; great-grandchildren, Ryan Null, Giana Pappan, and Vivia Pappan.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 27th at 12PM at St. Monica Church of St. Augustine Parish, 116 Thorndale Dr., Beaver Falls.

Private interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Beaver County Special Unit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jerry’s name may be made to the Beaver County Humane Society, 3394 Brodhead Road, Aliquippa, PA 15001.

    Not sure where to begin. Jerry was a great guy. In my time knowing him (12 years) he was not only a neighbor but also a friend. We would talk about life, politics and of course the Pittsburgh Pirates/Steelers. I wish all my neighbors were like him. I have many fond memories that I will never forget. RIP my friend Jerry.
