Today was hard. We said goodbye to an amazing woman. The Hupp’s were our extended family up the street and I will forever be grateful for the love and memories they brought to my life. Heather was more than a babysitter. She was the beautiful combination of a third parent and a second sister when I was growing up. I’ve known her all my life and never thought I’d have to say goodbye so soon. She took care of Jenni and I for over a decade and saw us through so much. She was the coolest person we knew and we wanted to be just like her. She scared us silly, tickled us to tears and held us when we cried. She helped us catch hundred of frogs and fireflies. She helped us do our homework and instilled the importance of hard work. She tortured me with asparagus and rescued me from a dark closet. She got so mad she threw candy out the window and selflessly watched Winnie the Pooh on repeat when I was sick with the chicken pox. She forgave me for getting sick in her car and took us on countless adventures. We problem solved to catch a bird that had flown into the house and she loved animals as much as we did. She challenged us to be the best people we could be. She was smart and funny and creative and caring. We loved each other endlessly. I wouldn’t be who I am today with Heather.
And I still want a red pickup truck.
