Herman A.
"Herky" Krukenberg
Nov 24, 1938 — Aug 13, 2022
Sales of Hamm's beer declined dramatically on Saturday, August 13, 2022 with the passing of Herman Krukenberg, 83, following a 6-month battle with cancer. Herman died peacefully in his home in Patterson Township surrounded by his family.
Herman was born in New Brighton, PA to Harry and Mary (Olzack) Krukenberg and grew up in Beaver Falls, PA graduating from Beaver Falls High School in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in July 1956 and served as an Engineering Equipment Mechanic in the 293 rd Engineering Battalion until July 1959. Herman spent the majority of his time in the Army overseas in England, France, Germany, and Turkey. He developed a deep fondness for Germany and its culture. He met his wife Helen (Burian) in August of 1955 at a St. Mary's church dance and they married on February 10, 1962.
Herman had a career as a pipefitter/welder spanning more than 30 years with the majority of those years at Babcock & Wilcox. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gunstock craftsman, amateur cartoonist, meticulous car cleaner, and self-appointed master of assigning inappropriate nicknames.
He enjoyed family vacations at Ormond Beach, Florida. Later in life Herman and Helen enjoyed winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
Herman enjoyed countless conversations with his beloved neighbors where together they solved the worlds problems. He avoided wearing 'short pants' except when in Florida, of course! He despised political correctness, 'do-gooders', and non-smoking sections.
He is survived by his wife Helen, a lady of great patience who lovingly endured him for 60 ½ years; children, Melissa (Ted) Lucidi of Freedom, PA; Harry (Tina) Krukenberg of Springboro, OH; brother Thomas (Teresa) Krukenberg of New Castle, PA; grandchildren Allison 'Stinky' Krukenberg (Rob Uta) of Dayton, OH and Katie 'Magoocious' Krukenberg of Springboro, OH; Nieces Lucy 'Studa Bubba' (Tom) Balzer of Beaver Falls, PA and Rose Mary 'Rosie' (Jeff) Schooler of Chandler, AZ. Herman is also survived by his kind and loving neighbors and dear friends Tom & Kathy Byrne, Shawn & Melinda Haddox, John & Maryann Darak, Greg & Erin Fusetti, and his 'adopted grandson', Jake Hofer.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 17, from 1-4pm at Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com .
An Ice Cream Celebration will be held the same day from 4:30-6:30pm at Patterson Township Fire Hall, 319 Darlington Road, Beaver Falls, PA. All are welcome to come to enjoy Herman's favorite treat…Ice Cream!
I lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Herman's name may be made to Allegheny Health Network Hospice or Humane Society of Beaver County.
