Obituary

Joan Lee Young, 81, formerly of Ohioville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Cambridge Village in Beaver Falls, PA.

Born on August 31, 1944, in Comfort, West Virginia, Joan was the daughter of the late Harold and Verna (Stewart) Cooper.

Joan was a woman of deep faith who devoted much of her life to serving the Lord through her church and community. She and her husband, Lewis, began their beloved puppet ministry at First Baptist Church of Coraopolis, where they used their creativity and talents to share messages of faith with others. Joan later continued the puppet ministry at First Baptist Church of Westfield, where her husband served as pastor for eight years. Her love for the ministry extended beyond the performances themselves, as she lovingly handmade many of the puppets used in the shows, as well as special puppets for her grandchildren to enjoy.

Joan was also a devoted member of Ohioville Free Methodist Church, where she remained actively involved in the life of the church. She also generously gave her time to the church food pantry, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Above all, Joan treasured her role as a mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband, F. Lewis Young; and her sister, Lora Hamrick.

She is survived by her beloved children, Michael (Jennifer) Young, Melissa (Steven) Kane, Marcie (Jarrod) Lucas, Jonathan (Rebecca) Young, Virgilio Young, Shannon Rogan, Eric (Crystal) Young, and Nancy Young; her cherished grandchildren, Logan, Hailey, Jordyn, Mason, Dregen, Grace, Maddie, and Mia; her great-granddaughter, Melia; her nephews, David and Mark Hamrick; as well as extended family and friends.

Friends will be received on Thursday, September 3, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.

A funeral service celebrating Joan's life and faith will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Ohioville Free Methodist Church, 6464 Tuscarawas Road, Midland, PA 15059.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens in West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joan's name to Ohioville Free Methodist Church.
