John L. Black, Jr. 82, of Medina, Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026.

John was born February 1, 1944 in New Brighton, Pennsylvania to the late John L. Black, Sr. and Ethel (nee Hennessey) Black. He had resided in Beaver County Pennsylvania until he moved to Medina County in 2013.

He had worked at the former B & W Steel Mill in Pennsylvania prior to owning and operating his own paint and auto body shop Blackies Automotive from 1971-2004. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Valley City. John was a U.S. Army veteran serving for three years.  He was devoted to the loving care of his wife and he had a tender attachment to his dog, Thor.

He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Sandra (nee Sullivan), daughter Tina (David) Flack and son David (Brenda) Black; grandchildren, Cassandra, Justin (Annie), Aiden & Caylee Flack; Brittney (Brian) Hamilton, Zachary (Jessica) Black; great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Delaney and Hayleigh Hamilton, Madison Black and two more little ones on the way.  John is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Jones and Marilyn Balderson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Kaye Geary.

There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:00 am on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 in the Gathering Area of St. Martin of Tours, 1800 Station Road, Valley City, Ohio, with the Funeral Mass immediately following in St. Martin's Chapel.

John's burial will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in St. Joseph Cemetery, New Brighton, Pennsylvania with Military Honors.
