Obituary

John L. Yeager, 82, of Chippewa Township, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Born on November 2, 1943, in Ambridge, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Ferencik) Yeager.

John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth; a sister, Phyllis Rowley of Conway; a son, Benjamin (Mia) of Bryn Mawr; a daughter, Eve of Chippewa Twp; grandsons, Garen and Gabe Yeager; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Ernest; and a sister, Mary Fraser.

John graduated from Ambridge High School and Geneva College.  He was a life science teacher in the Blackhawk School District for 35 years.  He had many wonderful memories of his students, their families, fellow teachers, and administrators.  His morning routine included breakfast at the Hot Dog Shoppe in Chippewa, where he enjoyed chatting with his friends, former students, and staff.

He served in many capacities at the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City.

His interests included fishing, landscaping, golfing with his friends, and travelling internationally with his wife and family.  He received many awards for woodworking and sculpting.  John was never bored, spending time designing, creating and rebuilding a wide range of projects – everything from homes, boats, and to his final project, the restoration of a 1957 Jaguar XK 150 coupe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s honor to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2121 K Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20037 or online at lupus.org.

As events played out our family chose the Edgewood Road/Riverside School community when re-locating many years ago. And though it was quietly suggested that folks from afar might not receive a red-carpet treatment, the reality proved to be quite the opposite. It wasn’t long before we were introduced to the Yeagers, through neighbors Shirley and Ed Miller. It wasn’t every day that we interacted but it was always pleasant for us. Both sets of children weren’t of similar age so we didn’t share those types of activities. Ben, whom we’d never met, had been off on his own path by then. Eve was about to graduate and be off to college but not before putting in a round or two sitting for our young son.
So it was we oldsters who would pridefully report the various comings and goings of our loved ones when we’d cross paths or otherwise be together.
The ladies could hold their own during those occasions but I’d tend to pow-wow with John about his grandsons and the things they were learning or of course whatever recent discovery he’d made or project he was working on. I so much admire(d) his attention to detail but confess to perhaps taking for granted that the discussions would simply pick up where they’d left off.
