Obituary
John L. Yeager, 82, of Chippewa Township, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025.
Born on November 2, 1943, in Ambridge, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Ferencik) Yeager.
John is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth; a sister, Phyllis Rowley of Conway; a son, Benjamin (Mia) of Bryn Mawr; a daughter, Eve of Chippewa Twp; grandsons, Garen and Gabe Yeager; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Ernest; and a sister, Mary Fraser.
John graduated from Ambridge High School and Geneva College. He was a life science teacher in the Blackhawk School District for 35 years. He had many wonderful memories of his students, their families, fellow teachers, and administrators. His morning routine included breakfast at the Hot Dog Shoppe in Chippewa, where he enjoyed chatting with his friends, former students, and staff.
He served in many capacities at the First United Methodist Church in Ellwood City.
His interests included fishing, landscaping, golfing with his friends, and travelling internationally with his wife and family. He received many awards for woodworking and sculpting. John was never bored, spending time designing, creating and rebuilding a wide range of projects – everything from homes, boats, and to his final project, the restoration of a 1957 Jaguar XK 150 coupe.

Mr. Yeager was one of the most joyful and influential teachers I ever had. He said something one day in class. “I believe, truly believe, if I set my mind to it and practice, I can do and learn anything I want”. I believed him. And in turn, I believed I could do so much more than I thought I was capable of. We lost one of the great ones. He lives on in so many of his students. <3

It’s with the most sincere condolences, I extend our heartfelt sympathy to Ruth and family. We were blessed to have lived next door to the Yeagers when we all began our teaching careers. The memories are joyful. Swimming together in our neighbors pool, going to baseball games where John and Hugh umpired and their silly baseball tan. I wish I could share a photo of John posing on the diving board that shows off that baseball tan and playfulness! Memories of Christmas visits together, riding in Johns little red sports car and hearing the tap tap tap in the driveway of John’s skilled hands tapping away at his creative wood carving, the Goddess of Wheat, I think he named it! Just so many. Our most cherished memory was just on Aug 30, at our daughter, their Goddaughter, Heathers wedding. John was his talkative self. What a joyful memory we are left with. He raved about the comfort of the chairs at the reception. Most all chairs caused him pain. My last memory of them were of them dancing to win the award of longest married. We pretty much stole the award from them as we were married just a few months longer. Just a last playful memory. We cherish each and every one. Rest in peace, John.
Memories of you bring us smiles.
