Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Mr. John Newman Groves, aged 88 years. He departed this world on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Surrounded by family, he peacefully left this life, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and cherished memories.
John, commonly referred to as “Jack”, was born on January 16, 1935, to the late John and Mary Frances (Goedeker) Groves. He was born and raised in Rochester, PA. He was a devoted husband to Anna Groves, and father to Jack, Cindy, Linda, and Krissy. He grandfathered fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a friend to whomever he met from his homes in Beaver County to England, St. Louis, and wherever life took him. His life was a testament to the resilience, kindness, and a strong sense of family values.
Jack was known as a kind, thoughtful and generous person. Whatever he did, he gave it his all. A man of many talents, Jack found joy in simple pleasures, such as eating daily at his favorite restaurants and taking his grandkids for “snickity snacks”. He enjoyed fishing in Canada as a young man with his father, mother and three younger brothers. As life went on, he imparted that love of fishing to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Special in his heart, were fishing trips with his brothers annually.
Jack dedicated his life to his family and career. He often told stories of the people he worked with at Westinghouse and Rockwell. A dedicated provider, Jack worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being of his family, instilling in them the importance of hard work, perseverance, and “sticking together”.
Throughout his 88 years, Jack cultivated many deep friendships. An avid storyteller, he shared his experiences with a twinkle in his eye, leaving a lasting impression on those who listened. He loved football, playing it when young and watching games. His wisdom and guidance served as a compass for his children and grandchildren, helping to shape them into the compassionate individuals.
Jack is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Anna (Lucci) Groves, who passed away on April 9, 2020. He now joins her in the presence of the Lord. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Richard “Dick” Groves.
Jack is survived by his four children and their families- his son, John Groves and his wife Lynette; his daughters, Cindy Dankowski and her husband Jim, Linda Fimbers and her husband Michael, and Kristine “Krissy” Morgan; his grandchildren, Aaron Groves, Suzanna Groves, Katherine Dankowski, Elliot Dankowski, Bethel Borchardt, Jerusha Saenz, Joel Borchardt, James Borchardt, Rain Torosyan, Carol Borchardt, Paige Borchardt, Ian Snyder, Rory Snyder, Duncan Snyder and Sophia Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Andrew James Saenz, Danika Saenz, Bradley Mora, Bowie Mora, Jude Snyder, Lucciano Stevey and Lorenzo Stevey; and two brothers, Herbert (Annette) Grove and David Groves.
He will be dearly missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we mourn the loss of a remarkable man, we find solace in the memories we shared and the lessons he imparted. Jack’s legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Friends will be received Thursday, January 11th from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm in the Gabauer-Todd Funeral Home – 340 3rd Street, Beaver PA, where prayers will be held Friday, January 12th at 10am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 am at Saints Peter & Paul Church of Our Lady of The Valley Parish – 200 Third St., Beaver.
