Kevin Peter O’Brien, 49, of Shamokin, PA, died Monday, July 11, 2016 at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.He was born September 30, 1966 in Philadelphia to the late John Michael O’Brien and Mary Ellen (Thompson) O’Brien. He had a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s University and he enjoyed donating his time to help immigrants learn how to speak English.In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers and three sisters, James (Patricia) O’Brien, Birmingham, AL, Maureen (Keith) Hoffmann, Chesapeake Beach, MD, John Michael (Kim) O’Brien, Hillsboro, OH, Denise (Mark) Robinson, and Mary Ellen O’Brien, Beaver, PA; five nieces, Elizabeth and Molly Hoffman, Sara Jett, Erin Sheeley, Shannon Barger, and Courtney Afflerbach; five nephews, John Michael O’Brien III, John Phillip, Edward and David O’Brien, and Joseph Afflerbach; two great-nieces, Alexa and Aliza Jett; and two great-nephews, Edwin Barger, and Isaac Scheeley.There will be a graveside service on Saturday, July 16 at 11am at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon, PA.Arrangements were handled by the GABAUER-MATTER FUNERAL HOME &CREMATION SERVICES INC. 1133 Church Street Ambridge, PA www.gabauermatterfuneralhome.com.
