Leona Cook

Formerly of Beaver

Leona Stone Cook, age 102, a longtime resident of Beaver, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 1:45 P.M. in Parma, Ohio.

Born March 25, 1913 in Vanport, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. Stone and Edna Stone (nee Kendrew) of Vanport. She attended Beaver High School. She was a loving homemaker and in later years worked at Kretchmar’s Bakery in both Rochester and Beaver. She enjoyed dancing, and was a member of Charlie’s Angels. She loved spending time with her family, catching up with their lives and playing games. Leona was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Beaver. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred J. Cook on August 14, 1966, and her loving companion Elmer “Red” McClain on October 24, 2002.

Those left behind are her daughter, Marjorie C. Miller and son-in-law Ronald A. Miller of Parma, Ohio; two grandchildren, Cynthia Galan (Greg) of Lorain, Ohio and Susan Mason (Daniel) of North Royalton, Ohio; eight great grandchildren, Erin Pacilli (Joseph) of Matthews, North Carolina, Shawn Vessalo (Nina) of Uniontown, Ohio, Scott Vessalo (Sarah) of Chicago, Illinois, Megan Berning (Jeremy) of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Jeremy Mason (Rocio) of North Olmsted, Ohio, Elizabeth Mason of Brunswick, Ohio, Leia Mason of Lakewood, Ohio, Michelle Mason of North Royalton, Ohio; eight great-great grandchildren, Allyson, Dominic and Andrew Pacilli, Natalie and Nathan Vessalo, Hazel Vessalo, Jude and Jack Mason. She is survived by one sister, Dorothy Tyson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were three sisters, Hazel O’Dell, Virginia Fritz, and Maude Pruban; and four brothers, Charles Stone, Clifford Stone, Thomas Stone, and Donald Stone; sisters-in-law Hazel Means (Gail), Margaret Reese (Wes), Liz Barto (Glen), Laura Rosensteel (Robert), Marie Cook and Leona Zajac (John) and brothers-in-law Charles Cook (Ollie), Ed Cook (Julia), Joe Cook (Carmel).

The family will receive friends on Friday, January, 15, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Todd Funeral Home, 340 Third Street, Beaver, Pennsylvania 15009. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Todd Funeral Home with Rev. Marie Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church of Beaver, 370 Iroquois Place, Beaver, Pennsylvania 15009, or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 30080 Hospice Way, Westlake, Ohio 44145.
