Obituary
Ralph A Frye Jr. passed away suddenly on August 11, 2023. Born in Westmoreland County in 1933 to Ralph A Frye Sr and Bertha Mae Coughenour he grew up in New Kensington and graduated from New Kensington Highschool in 1951. He went on to graduate from The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1955 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was commissioned in the Army as an Artillery Officer. He spent one year on active duty and eight years in the Reserves, he was honorably discharged in 1964.
After active-duty, he was hired by Duquesne Light Company at Beaver Valley One Nuclear Power Plant, he spent time in the Pittsburgh and McKeesport Offices, the Beaver Office, and finally in Center at Western District Headquarters. His career spanned almost four decades, and he retired as a Major Accounts Representative March of 1995.
In 1961 he married Carolyn R George and started his family in 1963, in Blawnox, PA with his first-born son Ralph A Frye III. Shortly after, he moved the family to Gibsonia, PA and added two more sons, Jeffery B Frye and Brian G Frye. In 1978 he moved the family to Beaver, PA and remained there until his death in 2023. Ralph was an active member of the First Christian Church of Beaver and served as a Beaver Councilman for 25 years.
During his early life, he was an avid baseball player and played his college baseball at VMI, then coached into his 40’s from little league to legion. He also loved golf and he served as secretary of his golf league for many years. He was a member of the Elks and Fort McIntosh Club for many years where he played pool and bowled duck and ten pins.
During his career he was active in the United Way and other charities, receiving recognition for his many years of service. He was also an avid supporter of the Beaver Memorial Library and the VMI Alumni Association.
He is survived by his sons Ralph A Frye III (Kathleen and Nina) of South Beaver, Jeffery B Frye (Crystal) of Ellwood City, Brian G Frye of Beaver, his grandsons Zachary C Clever (Rebecca) of Rockmart Georgia, Jeffrye B Frye II of Ellwood City, and his nephews Scott Covert (Lisa) of Lower Burrell and Patrick Covert (Velma) of Gibsonia.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bertha Mae and Ralph A Frye Sr (Ad), his granddaughter Carloyn K Frye, his wife Carolyn R Frye, and his sister and brother-in-law Jeannie and Allen Covert.
According to his wishes, he will be cremated and buried with his wife and granddaughter at Lakewood Memorial Gardens in Cheswick. There will be no viewing or memorial service. He asked that in lieu of a memorial or flowers that contributions in his name are made to the First Christian Church of Beaver or the Beaver Memorial Library.

I knew Ralph through his service to the Beaver County Electric League in the ’70’s and ’80’s. A great man to work with and a very keen sense of humor. God bless you, Ralph. I miss you ! Robert Drogus.
