My wife Joyce and I had the privilege of playing in one of Bob Jones first high school band. We were a very close class, and Mr. (Dr.) Jones was one of our favorite teachers. He sat beside me in our church choir, and he encouraged me to consider the possibility of choosing music as a career. It is because of his persistence that I entered Carnegie Mellon University (then CIT) as a music student with majors in euphonium performance and education. I retired from education after a 37 year career as a music teacher, but continued to compose and work as a director of music in several churches. Currently I am director of music in a Lutheran church in southern Maryland and euphonium soloist in a community band. None of this would have happened were it not for Bob Jones. I chose music as a career because of him, and over the years, we kept in touch, trading compositions and sharing stories about our opera-singing granddaughters. We have such fond memories of Bob and Mary Ann, and we will miss him very much. Mary Ann, please know that you and your family are in our prayers as we pay tribute to a wonderful man and a true icon in the field of music. May God bless you, your family and your friends.Marty and Joyce

Besides my father, I’ve never admired or respected a man more than I did my cousin Bob Jones

8/23/2021Kay and I were very sorry to learn of Bob’s death earlier this month. We have fond memories of a nice time with Bob and Mary Ann in the sand dunes of Lake Michigan at Saugatuck, Michigan some 69 yearsago. We still chuckle when we recall a picnic meal in the dunes, when a neighborinvestigated our presence, demanded to know our names, but when he heard “Bob Jones” the neighbor said “Oh yeah!!”. We were not trespassing and nothingcame of it when we put out our fire and left.Regret that our distance from Pennsylvania kept us from close contact but are glad that annual Christmas cards kept the friendshipalive. Condolences and best wishes to Mary Ann during this tough time.Kay and Steve Babcock,2900 Waunona WayMadison, Wisconsin 53713
