Obituary

Steven E. Wengryn, 69, of Chippewa Township, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at his home.

Born on November 27, 1955, in Carnegie, he was the son of the late Michael and Eva (Wolanska) Wengryn.

Steve was a graduate of Carlynton High School, Class of 1973, and went on to study aviation at Beaver County Community College and Middle Tennessee State University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served as a fighter pilot from 1979 until 1987. Following his military service, Steve flew for American Airlines as a Captain from 1987 until his retirement in 2020.

Steve was known for his warmth, generosity, and sense of fun. He was the kind of person who would do anything for those he loved. He enjoyed golfing, winemaking, and cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers as a longtime season ticket holder. He was the heart of the tailgate and loved spending time with friends at the “Smoke Stack.” Above all, Steve loved being with his family, his children and grandchildren were his greatest joy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mary (Hickman) Wengryn; his children, Michael Wengryn, Stephanie Wengryn, and Corinna (Shannon) Caudill; two grandsons, Thomas, and Nicholas Caudill; his canine companion, Ruby; and granddog, Savvy. He was fortunate to have many close friendships throughout his life, especially with Mark, Della, Anthony, and Dean, who were by his side through so many good times. He also shared a special bond with Stefanie Cindric, his daughter’s lifelong best friend, who was like a daughter to him and supported him and his family through many of life’s challenges.

In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his sisters, Alice Wengryn and Maria Wolanska.

  1. Mary & Family, we were so sorry to hear of Steve’s passing. He was always warm and engaging with us and we were happy to know him. As tough as things may seem these next few weeks and months, please remember two things.
    1) You have friends that want to be available for you.
    2) Remember the good and the great times to carry you through.

We will be thinking of you, even though we cannot make the services.

    Warm Hugs.
