Frank and Sophie Belczyk

Obituary

Frank Stanley Belczyk, 89, of Beaver Falls, PA, born February 9, 1931, son of the late Joseph and Josephine Bugajska Belczyk, passed peacefully on December 15, 2020. His Loving, supportive, and devoted wife and homemaker of 65 years, Sophie Mae Belczyk, 87, Born May 13, 1933, daughter of the late Steve and Sophie Markovitch Raymond,  also died peacefully on November 28, 2020. They both passed on with family at their side at Good Samaritan Hospice in Beaver, PA.  Frank was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Walter and Theodore Belczyk, and sister Katherine Petti.  The loving couple are survived by sons Frank Belczyk, Raymond (Linda) Belczyk, and Lawrence (Jackie) Belczyk, 2 grandsons, Jason (Sarah) Belczyk and Colby Belczyk, 3 great grandsons Vaughn, Trenton and Brooks Belczyk, and many nephews and nieces.  Frank is also survived by his brother Thomas Belczyk, while Sophie is survived by her 2 sisters, Anna Marie Raymond and Patricia Halinka, and brother Steve (Rosalie) Raymond.

Frank was an Army CPL who served in South Korea, worked at Mayer China Co., and retired after 38 Years at Babcock and Wilcox Co.  His wife and family meant the world to him, and together they taught their family the value and importance of courage, strength, resilience, discipline, fair-mindedness, diligence, hard work, kindness, and team spirit.  Frank enjoyed sports, and they taught their children the importance of working together by encouraging them to play many different team sports.

They were of strong faith. Frank was active in the Holy Name Society (receiving Man of the Year Award) and was Chairman of the worship committee at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They both loved music, dancing, and singing in the church choir, and they prayed at Holy Trinity (St Monica) church for decades.  They loved gathering with family and friends and enjoyed vacations at the beach from Bermuda to Hawaii.  They loved their entire family with all their heart and regarded them as their greatest treasure.

They also dedicated almost 50 years of their lives to helping others overcome gambling addictions by starting and running local Gamblers Anonymous and Gam-a-non chapters and encouraging, influencing, mentoring and supporting people to make positive constructive change in their lives. They traveled to conferences nationwide to secure necessary resources and improve their ability to inspire others.

Sophie was Special: a thoughtful, caring, nurturing soul with an elevated sense of gratitude and enthusiasm for life, a person whose smile and gentle, welcoming, and kind demeanor uplifted the spirits of those she touched.  She always had a smile and kind word for people and a warm welcoming glow that many will never forget.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice Beaver for their compassionate care.  If so desired, contributions can be made in Frank and Sophie’s memory to “GSH Beaver IPU” and directly mailed to “Good Samaritan Hospice, 1000 Dutch Ridge Rd. 4th Floor, Beaver, PA 15009.”
