Obituary

Donald R. Inman, 83, of Patterson Township, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, in the comfort of his home.

Born on November 27, 1940, in Patterson Twp., he was the son of the late Glenn and Alice Inman.

Don was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School and Grantham School of Electronics, Washington, DC.  He attended Geneva College, received a certificate in electronics from Penn State-Beaver, and a First Class Radiotelephone License from the FCC.  Don was passionate about history and had been known for writing the History of Patterson Township in 1976.  He was part of the editorial staff of the Beaver County Bicentennial Atlas and co-authored “Portraits in Steel: an Illustrated History of the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation”, published by Kent State University in 1999.

Don retired following 41 years of faithful service as a master electrician with J & L Steel Corporation, Aliquippa.  He served as past president and chairman of the negotiation and finance committees of the Blackhawk School Board, five terms as Patterson Township Commissioner, Chairman of Police, Fire, Negotiations, Finance, Streets, and Sewer Commissioner, as well as served as the Patterson Twp., emergency management coordinator.

He was a life member of the General Anthony Wayne Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, where he currently served as registrar. He was Chairman and Founder of the Beaver County Industrial Museum.  He was also a current member of the Methodist Historical Society, Beaver County Historical Research and Landmarks Foundation, charter member of Western Beaver Genealogist Society, Sons of Union Veterans, and many more.

Don was an active member and historian of Riverview Methodist Church, where he also served as Chairman of Parish Staff, Finance, Trustees, Missions, and Administrative Board.

An avid genealogist, Don lost count of how many family trees he had made for many families throughout Beaver County, but it was quite a few.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Horn) Inman; children, John (Janice) Inman and Tacy (Paul) Horner; two grandchildren, Alison Horner and Matthew (Hannah) Horner; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret, George, and Phil.

Friends will be received on Friday, December 8th from 2-4PM & 6-8PM at the GABAUER-LUTTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 117 Blackhawk Road, Beaver Falls, PA.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9th at 11AM at Riverview Methodist Church, 1099 Darlington Road, Beaver Falls, PA 15010, with Pastor Luke Whipple officiating.  Friends will be received one hour prior to services.

Private interment will be in Beaver Falls Cemetery.

  2. Dear Carol I’m so happy I got to see Don Saturday at the train display . I will miss his knowledge on J&L questions I had, he always knew the answer. All of us at LBHS will miss himdeeply . You and the family have mine and Diana’s condolences and our thoughts and prayers . Dave Holoweiko

  3. Don was such an amazing historian and genealogist. He gave my dad Chris his first job at the police department in Patterson and he always spoke about how kind and incredibly intelligent Don was. I’ve always enjoyed reading the books he meticulously researched and had a wonderful time visiting the museum every time we went. Don and his family have always been an asset to this community and his absence will leave a hole that can’t be filled. I’m so very sorry for your loss, though I know at this moment those words don’t feel like much. My family is here for you all and please contact us if you need a hot meal or a hand with anything.

  4. We extend our sincere condolences to you, Carol, and your family.
