Obituary

Helen “Marge” Abruzzino, 91, of Patterson Township, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab.Born September 10, 1925 in Shinnston, WV, daughter of Willis and Alta Drummond. Helen served as a crossing guard for 11 years. During the cold weather, she would let children waiting for their bus sit in her car to warm up. On the last day of school, she gave every student a popsicle. She was also the lunchroom monitor at Patterson Elementary. The students were a big part of her life. She was a current member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church of Chippewa. Helen was an avid bingo player and was known for her famous meatball recipe. Helen was a member of the Patterson Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept.’s Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered her time at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, formerly Diviner Mercy.She was preceded in death by her husband, James Abruzzino, and four brothers, John, Jim, William, and Junior.Surviving are her sister, Martha Anuszkiewicz, Cincinnati, OH; daughter Maria Fleming, Patterson Twp.; granddaughter Marissa (Art) Mangie, Patterson Twp.; numerous nieces, nephews and their families; lifetime friends; and beloved canine companion, Lily.Friends will be received Friday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in the Gabauer-Lutton Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 117 Blackhawk Rd.-Chippewa www.gabauerfamilyfuneralhomes.com where prayers will be offered on Saturday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 at St. Monica’s-Chippewa Site. Father Kim Schreck will officiate.A rosary will be recited Friday evening at 7:30 in the funeral home.Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.A special thank you to Dr. Stragand and the nurses at Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehab for the compassion that was extended to Helen and her family.
