Howard “Ed” Emerick, 89, of Economy Boro, passed away Monday, April 10, 2017, just two days before his 90th birthday, at Good Samaritan Hospice.Born April 12, 1927, in Rochester, the son of the late Howard E. Emerick and Mae (Calvas) Rickard. He served in the U.S. Navy (Seabees) during World War II, was an operating engineer at Local 66, and was a horse trainer at the Meadows Race Track. His passion was jogging horses; and he was still racing at the age of 70. His favorite horse was Keystone Redwood; everyone at the Meadows was like a big family to him.Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Janet (Zehnder) Emerick; son, Jeffrey H. Emerick, Harrington, Maine; daughter-in-law, Linda Emerick, Chippewa Twp.; three grandsons, Brian S., Christopher W. and Evan E. Emerick, and three great-grandchildren, Katie B., Cole and Kyle Emerick.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard E.
