Obituary

On Saturday, January 23, 2016, at Good Samaritan Hospice, surrounded by his entire loving family, Nick Nardone Sr., 85, of Big Beaver (Koppel), went to be with our Lord and to reunite with his dad, Saverio, whom he had been waiting to see.Born July 13, 1930, in Koppel, he was the son of the late Saverio and Theresa DiPalma Nardone. Nick was a veteran of the United States Army, worked at the Corner Tavern, retiring after 16 years, and was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish. He was a former member of the Queen of Heaven Parish where he served as an usher, and was named Man of the Year by the Beaver County Deanery Holy Name Society in 2006. Nick spent endless hours volunteering at the church. He planted flowers, worked ziti dinners, made Easter bread and pumpkin rolls, served on the decorating committee, and made Christmas baskets for the needy, along with countless other generous deeds. Nick was also very active in the Koppel community. He was the former Fire Chief, served on the recreation board, was commissioner of sports, and was responsible for initiating Christmas in July. Nick was an active member of the Wolves Club, Koppel, and the IMBS Club for over 50 years. He loved to garden, but his greatest love was his family.He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley J. (Dukas) Nardone; four children and their spouses, Sam and Cindy Nardone, Chippewa Twp.; Nick Jr. and Kathy Nardone, Ellwood City; Mary Theresa and Jim Mason, Ellwood City, and Michael and LoraLee Nardone, Hermitage; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Evan and Judy Nardone, Connellsville, and Tony and Darlene Esoldo, Koppel; two sisters, Rose Sheeler, Koppel, and Alvida Guandolo, Chippewa Twp.; a sister-in-law, Teddy Pertile, Ellwood City; eleven grandchildren, Dominic, Leslie (John), Nikki (Luke), Cara (Jon), Nicholas (Ashley), Francesca, Jimmy (Jake), Matthew, Mark, Michael, and Anthony; two great-grandchildren, Lilliana and Jace; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Nicholas III and Aubrey; three sisters, Connie Priestas, Lena Biega and Malina Nardone, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank, Albert, Al, Bill, Louise, Tony and Buddy.Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the GABAUER-MATTER FUNERAL HOME, 3500 Third Ave., Koppel, where prayers will be offered Wednesday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Parish, Ellwood City. Father Mark Thomas will officiate.Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery.The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Heritage Valley Beaver Room 364 and Good Samaritan Hospice for all of their loving care.Members of the Veterans Honor Guard will meet Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home to provide full military honors.
