Obituary

Philip Jay Icenhour
Beaver

Philip J. Icenhour Jr, 80 of Beaver went to be home with his Lord Sunday May 7.  Born Feb. 8, 1937 in Bridgewater to the late Philip J. and Evelyn Holsinger Icenhour.  Phil graduated Beaver High School in 1955, where he made All-State Guard and was offered several scholarships. Instead, he went to Parris Island and became a Marine.  At Beaver High he was a founding member of the “Joy Boys”.  Phil retired as a millwright for the Blooming Mill at J&L Steel and took pride in being on the A-team. He lived to serve his family. Preceding him in death were sisters Margie Brewer, Sonia Ferguson and dear brother “Rip”. He leaves behind, the love of his life, best friend and wife of 57 years, Ethel Jane Knecht Icenhou., With heavy hearts, his children Janey (Cliff) Conklin, Shiloh (Linda) Icenhour, and Heather (Curt) Neish, mourn his passing.  Pappy will be sadly missed by his 7 cherished grandkids, Haley, Trae and Spencer Conklin, Camden, Hadley, and Oliver Neish and River Icenhour and our extras Skylar, Michael, and Sumi. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Margie (Dennis) Dugan, daughter in law Sherri Herstine Icenhour, sisters-in-law Mary Elizabeth Hopkins and Sharon Weaver.  Brother-in-law, John Knecht (Mary Ann), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Phil was blessed with many faithful friends with whom he went to school; especially, Joe Churm, Harry Wallace, Denny Kunkle, Ed Zinkan, Jimmy Grove, Yatzi Weyand, Jim Laughren, Jerry Smith, Bob Lawrence, Frank Barber, Jack Supler and Fred Lloyd.

Phil was a former member of the Jaycees, former Lieutenant with the Beaver Vol. Fire Dept. and member of the NRA.  He is fondly remembered as a Beaver little league coach and coach of the undefeated Beaver Mighty Mites team.  He may have been one of Beaver’s toughest, but to us he was gentle, kind, and the most loving father ever.  The swing may be empty but the memories live.

“Dad, me too!”

In lieu of flowers we are asking that you honor our Fathers wishes and “buy a poor kid a pair of shoes”.

Friends will be received Friday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 in the Todd Funeral Home, 340 Third Street, Beaver and a funeral service will be celebrated Saturday at 1PM in the Christian Missionary and Alliance Church on College Avenue, Beaver.  Reverends Kirby Lantz and Roland Gray officiating.

  3. We were privileged to have this kind, gentle and generous man as our next-door neighbor for 2 years. We are better for having known him. He would never see us without taking the time to stop and visit. We were always welcome to interrupt his reverie and sit on the porch with him where he’d share a story or two. Two things we will always think of when we think of Phil Icenhour: 1) A good, kind and patient heart. 2) The devoted love of a man for his wife and family. With Deepest Sympathy,Aimee, Pete, Josh, Nick and Nate Grundberg
