I met Bob at the YMCA, and was heartened by his daily greetings, words of kindness, and that wonderful smile. I am better for having known him.

  4. The Rev. Dawne Sarchet says:

How can one find the words just say thank you to a man who impacted one’s life quite frankly for a lifetime. Knowing Bob Jones as my teacher, friend, and Christian mentor, transformed my life. Was life-giving. I’ve been serving as an ordainedPresbyterian minister for over 41 years. But inside that pastor’s heart has always lived a very shy young girl who never felt adequate and often hid anguish in her heart. Bob Jones entered my life in seventh grade as my junior high band director and then continued to bless me through high school. He knew I loved music and he knew music was life giving to me. He encouraged me to grow as a clarinetist and recognized the hard work I put in. But he also always knew that I was hurting inside. Such a sensitive man. Instead of letting me hide in that shell, he would call out to me in the morning when he saw me, always saying my name as Morning Sarchet. If an opportunity came to play for a special group, perhaps using an E flat clarinet which I had never had, he gave me that opportunity. He encouaged me to take leadership. When I was in extreme pain one day in high school, he just knew. He invited me to come in his office and although I couldn’t tell him what was wrong, he just sat with me and let me cry. And turned my tear-streaked face toward his and that’s all he needed to do. Just his acceptance and kindness. God blessed so many hundreds and thousands of us through this wonderful Christ-like man. I feel enormous guilt that I’ve never been able to express that thanks to him as deeply as I felt it.
